Camu camu grows in the Amazonian rain forest of Peru. It produces a fruit with the same name which contains powerful phyto (plant) chemicals. These phytochemicals include the amino acids serine, valine and leucine and more vitamin C than any other known plant in the world - one fruit contains 30 to 60 times more than an orange.

The Camu-Camu fruit is approximately 2cm in diameter and has a purplish red skin with a yellow pulp, which, when processed, results in a pale yellow powder. Each teaspoon of dried, powdered Camu-Camu has approximately 220 milligrams of ascorbic acid and small amounts of thiamin, riboflavin and niacin. It is also rich in bioflavanoids.

This herb has a wide range of medicinal effects, and has been used for centuries in South America, for problems such as migraines, depression, and viruses. In modern medicine, it is used to assist with the treatment of depression, and provide medicinal effectiveness against the herpes virus.

Many people have also found the Camu-Camu herb effective in controlling both colds and flu.
