SCHISANDRA POWDER Product No. P19087

Schisandra (schisandra chinensis) is a creeping, woody vine from the forests of northern China, cultivated for its sour bright red berries.

In ancient China, Schisandra was used as a staple food for hunting and gathering tribes. As a traditional medicinal herb, Schisandra, called Wu-wei-tsu in China, has been used as an astringent for a treatment for dry and chronic coughs, asthma, night/menopausal sweats, nocturnal seminal emissions and chronic diarrhoea.

During the early 1980's Chinese doctors began researching Schisandra as a treatment for hepatitis, based on its potential for protecting the liver. Schisandra is now a recognised 'adaptogen,' which is capable of increasing the body's resistance to disease, stress, and other debilitating processes. It is said to assist in:

  • stimulating the immune defences
  • balancing body functions and normalising body systems
  • boosting recovery after surgery
  • protecting against radiation
  • counteracting the effects of sugar
  • optimising energy in times of stress
  • increasing stamina
  • normalising blood sugar and blood pressure
  • reducing high cholesterol
  • shielding against infection
  • producing high amounts of energy

Studies conducted on Schisandra's effects have noted that the drug has a stimulating effect in low doses, but that this effect disappeared with larger doses.
