Royal jelly is a white, milky secretion produced by worker bees. For the first three days of life, all bee larvae eat royal jelly, but after this time, only the queen bee continues to eat it. The queen bee grows up to 50% larger than the other females, is highly fertile, and lives up to 40 times longer. Researchers believe it is the royal jelly that gives the queen bee this advantage.
Royal jelly is a complete protein, which contains all the essential amino acids and B vitamins. Studies have shown that it is also a mild antibiotic, and has a stimulating effect on the adrenal glands, which produce the hormones that regulate mood, metabolism and even sex drive.
