GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT Product No. P0710

Also known as Maiden Hair Tree and Ginkgo Nut.
Ginkgo Biloba extract is made from the leaves of the Ginkgo Biloba tree, the world's oldest living tree species, believed to have survived 200 million years. Ginkgo Biloba trees can be traced to the fossils of the Permian period and for this reason it is often referred to as the 'living fossil.''

Ginkgo Biloba trees can live for 1000 years and may grow to a height of 120 feet. The ginkgo has short horizontal branches with short shoots bearing fan-shaped leaves that measure five to ten centimetres across.

Ginkgo Biloba has been used in Oriental Medicine for more than five thousand years. This ancient remedy has been recommended for coughs, asthma and inflammations due to allergies. In the late seventeenth century, Engelbert Kaempfer, a German physician and botanist, became the first European to discover and catalogue the ginkgo tree. In 1784 a ginkgo tree was brought to America and planted, in the garden of William Hamilton, near Philadelphia. Partly because the ginkgo is the most resistant of tree species to insects, disease, and pollution, it is frequently planted along streets in cities.

Ginkgo is one of the most well researched herbs on earth. Hundreds of studies have been performed with Ginkgo Biloba extracts confirming many of the ancient uses as well as finding new applications.

Ginkgo Biloba is an antioxidant, it fights-free radicals. By fighting free-radicals Ginkgo Biloba helps keep your cells and tissues healthy, especially those in the brain which are extremely susceptible to free-radical damage.
