BLACKBERRY
Product No. P02075
Otherwise known as Bramble and R. fructicosus L.
A well-known plant that grows along fields and roadsides that has prickly stems, serrated leaves and edible, segmented berries that turn from green to a shiny purple-black when ripe (autumn).
The berries, which taste sweet when ripe, but often have an acidic edge, are used in cooking, added to desserts, or eaten as a fresh fruit.
The root, root bark and leaves contain tannins, gallic acid and flavonoid glycosides, and are used medicinally as a tonic and astringent, and most commonly as a treatment for diarrhoea. Blackberry leaf is also used to treat sore throats, mouth sores, minor cuts and scrapes, and haemorrhoids.
