Apple cider vinegar is a solution of acidic acid produced by the fermentation of apples. It consists of acid, water, and 19 minerals, including potassium, phosphorus, chlorine, sodium, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, iron, fluorine and silicon. It also contains quite a significant quantity of pectin, which has recently been identified as lowering cholesterol and may be the secret behind it’s fat-burning effects.

Ancient Egyptians were said to have used apple cider vinegar for weight loss, and it has been claimed it works as an aid in weight loss and fat burning. During the diet craze of the 1970’s, proponents claimed that combinations of apple cider, kelp, vitamin B-6, and lecithin tricked the body's metabolism into burning fat faster. There is no substantial scientific evidence to support this, however.
