Also known as Salvia hispanica. The chia plant is an annual that belongs to the mint family, grown exclusively for its seeds, which are rich in oil. Chia seeds owe their current popularity as a ‘superfood’ to their high content of omega-3 fatty acids, and α-linolenic acid. They are also rich in protein, fat, dietary fibre, and essential minerals.
