KOMBUCHA EXTRACT Product No. P11065

Also known as Zooglea, Manchurian Mushroom Tea, Sponge Tea, Kombucha Mushroom, Fungus Japonicas, Combuchu and Kombucha Fungus.

Kombucha is not a mushroom as its name implies, but a fungus, consisting of fungal yeast cells and bacteria, which can be many colours ranging from white to brown.

There are references that Kombucha tea-fungus was used over two thousand years ago by the Tsin Dynasty of the Chinese Empire, at which time it was referred to as the ‘remedy for immortality’. A Japanese visitor to Kargasok was reported to have found many people to be not only unusually healthy, but also very old (several were 110-130 years of age). The women were virtually unwrinkled, with few other visible signs of ageing, and it was claimed the tea was responsible for their health and longevity. In 414 A.D. Dr Kombu from Korea brought the remedy to Japan to treat the Japanese emporer Inkyo. The success of this treatment led to its rapid popularity, and use of the fermented tea eventually spread to Russia, India and throughout Europe. It was introduced in the US in the 1960’s.

Overall, Kombucha is believed to have a positive effect on the metabolism, the digestive system, the immune system, blood cleansing and detoxification of the body in general. It produces valuable organic acids vital to proper organ function, especially lactic acid for healthy digestive action and acetic acid, a natural antiseptic and inhibitor of harmful bacteria.
