IPRIFLAVONE
Product No. P0903
Ipriflavone (7-isopropoxyisoflavone) is a synthetic flavonoid derived from naturally occuring flavonoid compounds found in soybeans and other plants. It does occur naturally in food, such as in some soy sauces, but only in trace amounts, so is more readily available as a nutritional supplement.
Although ipriflavone is sometimes classified as a phytoestrogen, it has no direct estrogenic activity - ipriflavone does not activate any of the estrogen receptors.
Ipriflavone promotes calcium intake into the bone, and inhibits bone disintegration. Many clinical studies have shown that long-term treatment with ipriflavone (maximised when taken with calcium) is both safe and effective in halting bone deterioration in postmenopausal women, or in women who have had their ovaries removed.
For many years, postmenopausal women in Europe and Japan have taken approved ipriflavone supplements to maintain the density and strength of their bones, and to guard against fractures and other complications associated with osteoporosis. The most significant studies were performed in elderly women who had experience of vertebral fractures due to osteoporosis. Ipriflavone therapy not only halted bone loss, it actually increased bone density and significantly eliminated or improved vertebral fractures and associated pain.
