GAMMA AMINO BUTYRIC ACID (GABA)
Product No. P0701
Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the product of a biochemical decarboxylation reaction of glutamic acid by the vitamin Pyridoxine (B6). GABA serves as an inhibitory neurotransmitter to block the transmission of an impulse from one cell to another in the central nervous system. The inhibition results from a hyperpolarisation of the synaptic transmembrane potential of the inhibited neuron, which is elicited by the binding of GABA molecules to their receptors in the post-synaptic membrane. This binding opens ion channels to allow either the flow of chloride or potassium ions into or out of the cell.
With regard to the human brain, it has been asserted that GABA signals interfere with the registration and consolidation stages of memory formation. This is thought to be possible because the GABA system is found in the hippocampus, an area of brain which has been implicated in memory formation.
Medicinally, GABA has been used to treat both epilepsy and hypertension, where it is thought to induce tranquillity in individuals who show manic behaviour and acute agitation.
Research has shown that Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) promotes the bodies natural release of growth hormone. This growth hormone is vital in the development of high quality muscle tissue and the lowering of fat. It works in this way by stimulating increased activity within the bodies pituitary gland - this boosts the natural release of growth hormone. Users have found that GABA hardens the physique, increases strength, strengthens tendons and ligaments, improves wellbeing and promotes deeper, more refreshing sleep.
GABA is used mainly in conjunction with Creatine, Glutamine and Hydroxy Methyl Butyrate (HMB).
