Camphor powder comes from the roots of the trees and also the wood of the trunk of mature trees. Its appearance is white crystals and has a fragrant and penetrating order. It also has a pungent and aromatic taste.
The camphor is distilled until it seperates into solids and oils. The oil then rises to the top and is extracted. The remaining solids are then compressed to remove any excess oil and cleaned and dried to form a powder. This is then used in hair products, shaving creams and to add a cooling effect to personal care products.
Camphor is often used to ease skin and soft tissue discomfort. It has a mild similar action to local anesthetic and due to its inflammatory action can increase circulation to the skin. It is frequently used to relieve the irritation of insect bites and strings and muscular aches and pains.
