Also known as Ammonium Heptamolybdate, Ammonium Paramolybdate and Hexaammonium Molybdate.

Almost all molybdenum is obtained from low-grade deposits of the mineral molybdenite, mined either from a primary deposit, or as a by-product of copper processing. Ammonium molybdate is made by roasting concentrated ore (obtained by crushing, grinding, and flotation of ores), followed by purification and/or reduction. It is formed by reacting technical-grade molybdic oxide with ammonium hydroxide and crystallising out the pure molybdate.

The body needs molybdenum for normal growth and general good health. For those who are unable to get enough molybdenum in their regular diet, or who have a need for more, supplements may be necessary. They are generally taken by mouth in multivitamin or mineral products, but injection forms are available.

A deficiency of molybdenum is rare - however, if the body does not get enough, certain enzymes needed by the body are affected, and this may lead to a build-up of unwanted substances.
