Activin is a natural supplement, extracted mainly from grape seed, but also found in various other foods. Activin is a powerful antioxidant, thought to be far more effective than other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, and beta-carotene.
For years, scientists have studied the phenomenon known as the ‘French Paradox’; the French have a diet filled with saturated fat and cholesterol, yet they have the lowest rate of heart disease of any western society. Scientists believe the answer lies in the red wine that is popular with the French, and more specifically, the polyphenolic bioflavonoids concentrated inside the grape seeds used to make the wine. Experts believe that red wine is more healthy than white, since red wine is fermented with the seeds, while white wine is not.
The polyphenolic bioflavanoids in grape seeds, which include oligomeric proanthocyanidins or ‘OPCs’, are some of the most powerful antioxidants yet discovered. Activin is a highly concentrated source of OPCs, which delivers the power of these flavonoids to the body to fight free radicals and the damage they cause (such as destroying cell membranes and damaging DNA).
Free radicals are produced by exercise, smoking, pesticides, pollution, excess sunlight, and even the body's normal process of metabolising air and food. Scientists believe that free radicals may be a root cause of more than 60 chronic and degenerative diseases, including certain types of cancer, cataracts, rheumatoid arthritis and heart disease, as well as the aging process itself.
