What is Informed-Sport?

Informed-Sport is a testing programme, designed to analyse supplements and their ingredients for inadvertent contamination with substances prohibited in sport.

Recent research has shown that some supplements have been found to be contaminated with low levels of steroids and stimulants that are prohibited by WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency. The Informed-Sport programme aims to work closely with supplement manufacturers and suppliers, such as Cambridge Commodities Ltd, by providing ISO 13075 approved analytical testing to minimise the incidence of banned contaminants finding their way into sport.

Anyone choosing to purchase ingredients can be assured that companies bearing the Informed-Sport logo have undergone rigorous testing, auditing, swabbing and have a very good understanding of how positive results occur.

Why are tests necessary?

Responsibility for the quality of products rests entirely with the manufacturer; therefore reputable manufacturers do everything in their power to keep their supplements pure. However, even trace levels of contamination can have significant consequences and this requires a sensitivity of testing beyond standard quality control systems.

Dr David Hall, INFORMED-SPORT, comments: "Strict liability refers to a ruling that athletes are singularly responsible for anything that is found within their body. So whether it was a coach, dietician, parent or friend that recommended an element of a diet, it is the athlete that is ultimately punished by WADA for a doping violation. By purchasing products bearing the INFORMED-SPORT logo the athlete knows that the manufacturer has to meet a defined specification based on the very best scientific expertise."

The Informed-Sport standard provides a defined specification to both manufacturers and consumers based on the very best scientific expertise and reassures consumers that products bearing the Informed-Sport logo can be trusted.

What does this mean for you?

By working with Informed-Sport, Cambridge Commodities Ltd are demonstrating their long-term commitment to supplying clean and tested ingredients. This means that you can be confident that you are selling the very best, safest ingredients to your customers.
